This December cruise the east Australian seaboard with the yachts of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart – from the safety and comfort of your own private charter plane. Vortex Air are offering 3 day and 4 day air experiences from Moorabbin airport, Melbourne and 4 day escapes out of Bankstown, Sydney; tracking the yachts of the Sydney to Hobart on their treacherous annual expedition down the east coast of the country to Hobart.Equipped with GPS equipment we can locate and track any particular yacht in the event that may be of interest to you.In addition to the excitement of tracking the race, packages include:- Refreshments stops on the beautiful and remote Flinders Island- Overnight accommodation at Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links on Tasmania’s north east coast, with an optional round golf.- Scenic flights over Phillip Island, Bay of Fires, Freycinet Peninsular, Maria Island and the lush greenscapes of Tasmania’s interior.- A second nights’ accommodation at award winning Old Woolstore hotel, Hobart. The Old Woolstore is located just 5 minutes walk from constitution dock and the finish line of the Sydney to Hobart race.- A stopover and overnight accommodation in the quaint seaside town of Merimbula (4 day packages only)- Breakfast on each day of the tour.
3 Day Tour Ex Melbourne/Moorabbin
December 27-29
Our aircraft are GPS equipped and have the ability to locate a particular yacht in the event that you may have a family member or friend competing.
Day 1: Melbourne/Moorabbin to Barnbougle Dunes, Bridport, Tasmania
Enjoy a pre-flight cocktail breakfast in the Vortex Air club lounge prior to a 10am departure. Departing southeast over Westernport Bay and Phillip Island, skirt the rugged Gippsland coast past Wilson’s Promontory, and over fly the isolated islands of Bass Straight Arrive at beautiful Flinders Island for morning tea. Departing Flinders Island, fly east, passing the coast to meet the Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race fleet. Enjoy a one-hour air tour observing the yachts as they makes their way south through the Tasman sea before arriving on Tasmania’s north west coast at Barnbougle Dunes Golf Course.
Barnbougle Dunes is a golf course of world renown, straddling the fertile fields and shore of Bass Straight. Complete the day with a round of golf, or relax at the Lost Farm Day Spa. Dinner and accommodation is at Lost Farm, the sister course to Barnbougle Dunes. Lost Farm’s dining room is perched high on a sand dune with stunning views of the rugged coast.
Day 2: Barnbougle Dunes to Hobart
Buffet breakfast at Lost Farm, followed by a one-hour air tour of the yacht fleet continuing south past the north west coast of Tasmania. Then fly over the beautiful Bay of Fires en-route to St Helens for morning tea. Departing south, skirt the east coast via the stunning Freycinet Peninsula. Marvel at the breathtaking Wineglass Bay. Continuing along the coast south, re-join the yacht fleet as it rounds the Tasman Peninsula and heads north through Storm Bay and up the Derwent River towards Hobart. Accommodation is at the historic Old Woolstore , located just a stones throw to Constitution Dock and Salamanca Place. The evening is free to explore Hobart at your leisure.
Day 3: Hobart-Melbourne to Moorabbin
Following breakfast at the Old Woolstore Hotel, spend the morning catching up with the newly arrived yachts at Constitution Dock, prior to an early afternoon departure from Hobart. Flying up the interior of Tasmania we leave the coast at Devonport, and head back to Moorabbin across Bass Straight and Phillip Island to Moorabbin Airport.

Day 1: Melbourne/Moorabbin to Merimbula
Enjoy a pre-flight cocktail breakfast in the Vortex Air club lounge prior to a 10am departure. Departing northeast, fly over Lake Eildon and the beautiful Victorian High Country before arriving at the seaside resort of Merimbula. Enjoy the afternoon exploring this safe haven port and lovely beaches. Accommodation is at the Seaspray Best Western.
Day 2: Merimbula to Barnbougle Dunes, Bridport, Tasmania
Enjoy breakfast in your room prior to boarding the aircraft. Departing Merimbula, head southeast off the coast to meet up with the Sydney-Hobart yacht fleet. Departing Bankstown, head south to Wollongong, crossing the coast to rendezvous with the Sydney-Hobart yacht fleet. Follow the fleet all the way along the south coast of NSW before reaching the seaside resort of Merimbula. Enjoy the afternoon exploring this safe haven port town and lovely beaches. Accommodation is at the Seaspray Best Western.
