Escape Melbourne for a wonderful weekend of wine, food, education and breath taking scenery on the north coast of Tasmania.


Day 1

Check in is at 5.00pm at Vortex’s passenger lounge at Moorabbin Airport. On arrival, meet Philip Smith from The Wine Depository and your fellow passengers whilst enjoying Tasmanian sparkling wine and cheeses.

Departing Moorabbin to the south, you fly over Westernport Bay followed by lovely views of Wilson’s Promontory. Crossing the north coast of Tasmania you will enjoy a scenic flight of the Tamar Valley wine region before flying up the Tamar River for a landing at Georgetown Airport.

After settling into your riverside accommodation, enjoy a pre dinner glass of wine on the balcony over looking the Tamar River.

At dinner, Philip will introduce you to the wines styles of the Tamar Valley. Feast on a 6 course degustation menu of local produce matched to the wines of the region.

Day 2

Following a light breakfast at Peppers, you will indulge in a private tasting at Jansz Estate. Jansz, located on the Pipers Brook estate, affords spectacular views of the vineyard and the north coast of Tasmania. The team at Jansz with show you the charms and skill of the Champagne production style applied to Tasmanian conditions. You will learn how the wines are made and of course taste the final product. Tasmanian cheeses will be served whilst enjoying the wine and views.

Lunch today is at Pipers Brook Vineyard just a short journey through the Pipers Brook vineyard from Jansz. Enjoy a light alfresco lunch of seasonal north coast produce matched to the wines of the house followed by a tasting of the Pipers Brook range.

Following lunch you will tour Three Wishes Winery.  Three Wishes wines are hand crafted to reflect the natural beauty and historic character of their single vineyard site. You will meet the wine maker, take a tour of the winery and vineyard and taste their stunning wines.

Dinner tonight will be a somewhat educational affair.  You will taste older vintages of iconic Tamar Valley wines and compare them to their current releases. A 3 course dinner of seasonal local produce will be matched to the wines

Day 3

After breakfast at Peppers and following a leisurely drive through the Tamar Valley, you will arrive at Tamar Ridge. Tamar Ridge is located on the western bank of the Tamar River. Production will be in full swing. The winemaker will explain their wine making process from the initial crush to post fermentation. Barrel stock will be included in the tour followed by a light lunch in the tasting room overlooking the vineyard.

Departing Georgetown Airport mid afternoon, enjoy the passing scenery as you wing your way across Bass Strait with a newly found appreciation of the wines and produce of the Tamar Valley and Tasmania.
